Block Puzzle Gems is a block puzzle game for Android: an 8x8 board, three shapes at a time, and one rule. Drag a shape onto the grid, fill a row or a column from edge to edge, and it clears.
What it leaves out is what makes it worth keeping installed. There is no timer, so a move takes as long as you want to spend on it. There is no loading screen, so the game is on the board within a second of tapping the icon. And it needs no connection, so it works in the places where a phone is most often the only thing to do.

How to beat your best score
Most runs end the same way: a board that filled up in the middle, and a long piece with nowhere to go. These five habits are what separate a 300 from a 3,000.
Always keep room for the longest piece
The five-cell bar is what ends most games. Keep one row or column clear enough to take it, and you will never lose to the piece itself, only to a position you chose.
Build from the edges inwards
Gaps in the middle of the board are the hard ones to fill, because they need a piece of an exact shape. Gaps against an edge can be filled from one side, so they stay useful for longer.
Set up two lines at once
A placement that completes a row and a column together scores far more than the two separately. Once you start looking for those, your average run roughly doubles.
Use the time you are given
Nothing is counting down. The single cheapest improvement available is to stop playing at the speed the animations suggest and look at the board before each placement.
Plan all three shapes, not the first one
The tray does not refill until all three are placed, so the third shape has to fit the board the first two leave behind. Playing the easy one first is how a comfortable board becomes a dead one.
